Recap of Week 2

Last week, we spent time exploring what it really means to protect the heart — not just the emotional part of us, but the spiritual center where our values, convictions, and identity take shape. As you practiced righteousness in small, quiet ways, I hope you noticed moments when God gently redirected your steps or softened something inside you. Maybe you became more aware of a reaction you wanted to change, or maybe you felt a tug to respond with grace instead of defensiveness.

Righteousness isn’t about getting everything right — it’s about choosing what honors God, one decision at a time. And as you leaned into that, even imperfectly, my prayer is that you felt the strength that comes from letting God guard your heart instead of trying to guard it all on your own.

This week, we’re moving from the heart to the parts of us that meet the world head-on: our faith and our thoughts. These two pieces of armor work together in a powerful way, especially when life feels uncertain or when old fears try to creep back in. So take a breath, release the pressure, and step into Week 3 with an open heart — God is already here, ready to steady you.

The Shield of Faith

Faith isn’t just belief — it’s the quiet, steady confidence that God is who He says He is, even when circumstances don’t match the story we hoped for. When Paul wrote about the “flaming arrows of the evil one,” he wasn’t exaggerating. We face doubts that burn hot, fears that flare up unexpectedly, and lies that try to chip away at our trust in God. That’s why the shield mattered so much to Roman soldiers — it covered them, protected them, and even locked together with the shields of others for greater strength.

Our faith works the same way. When you choose to trust God in the moment you feel uncertain, you are lifting your shield. When you speak truth over fear, you are lifting your shield. When you choose to come to Him instead of letting your thoughts spiral, you are lifting your shield. Faith doesn’t make the arrows disappear — but it does keep them from sinking in.

“Take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.” (Ephesians 6:16, NIV)

And this week, we’re going to practice what it looks like to lift that shield with intention.

The Helmet of Salvation

If the shield guards what comes toward you, the helmet protects what happens inside you. Salvation isn’t just a one-time moment of grace — it’s a covering over your mind, a steady reminder of who you belong to and what truth you stand on. A soldier’s helmet was strong, secure, and impossible to overlook. It protected the head — the place where thoughts, decisions, worry, and imagination live.

This week, I want you to think about salvation as the lens through which your thoughts pass. When a lie whispers, “You’re failing,” salvation speaks, “You’re redeemed.” When fear says, “You’re on your own,” salvation answers, “God is with you.” When doubt tries to settle in, salvation reminds you that nothing can separate you from the love of Christ.

“Put on the helmet of salvation…” (Ephesians 6:17, NIV)

God isn’t asking you to control every thought — He’s inviting you to let His truth protect your mind in ways you don’t have the strength to do alone.
